LT. GOVERNOR SHARES HER LOVE OF STITCHNG

The very gracious and talented, Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lt. Governor of Ontario ( Canada) shares her love of meditative stitching and the sensuality of working with fabrics. For a lady in her position, her elegant and sometimes flashy wardrobe is not from fashion houses but from her own loving hands. See her interview on CTV where she discusses her passion.

HEALING POWERS OF THE ARTS

In a tumultuous world filled with uncertainty, tensions and stress, we are seeing political upheaval, destruction of our environment and the breaking of the human spirit.  With the medium of the internet and social media, we have become more and more a part of a global community and thus we are laid bare to immediate news, comments, vitriol and unpleasantness as much as we are exposed to the joys of sharing the positives, beauty, co-operation, and alliances.

With people's daily personal responsibilities, both work and family related, life can be stressful enough and with the additional constant exposure to the negativity of the press, media and human interaction, there is a trickle down effect. Many people are experiencing sleep problems, fits of the blues, deep depressions and feelings of uncertainty and futility. Friendships have been lost, becoming casualties to political unrest and debate. People have become displaced due to acts of war and there is suffering. People feel edgy, agitated and disillusioned.

As artists, writers and musicians who are equally affected by all of this, I feel it is even more important now to step up to the plate and share the beauty, sensibilities and curative aspects of our lives and professions. The arts bring positivity, healing and enrichment. .They not only give us pleasure but teach us, heal us, encourage understanding and gives one the ability to think for themselves.

Our art can create a shelter from the storm and a comfort zone. If only for a short period of time, it gives us an escape and an opportunity to breathe easier, experience calm and enhance our quality of life. So to those of you in the artistic community, please continue to share your thoughts, your paintings, your dancing, your music, your writing, yourselves, your soul, with the world. We need the arts more than ever to comfort us and give us purpose, encouragement and motivation.

 CONTROL FREAK??

Some things are out of your control. – No matter what happens, no matter the outcome, you’re going to be just fine. Let the things you can’t control, happen. Allow the universe to bless you in surprising and joyful ways. What if, instead of pushing so hard to make life happen, you decided to let go a little and allow life to happen to you? What if, instead of trying to always be in control, you sometimes surrender control to something or someone other than yourself? What if, instead of working so hard to figure out every last answer, you allowed yourself to be guided to the solution in perfect timing?

What if........

 RETURN TO BLOGGING

After a long hiatus due to health circumstances, I am returning to my studio and resuming blogging.  A dear friend pointed out to me recently that it was Forget Me Not Day and as I have been away from blogging for such a long time, I felt a photo of same might be in order.

In these times of uncertainty and unrest in our world, we need to promote, beauty, arts, literature, music, nature and love, as much as we can. The first post on my return will address this, so please join me as we pull together, create and offer our weary world some artistic relief. As I ease myself back into this medium, I hope to post at least once a week, if not more, and my studio assistant (Karma)  is ready to critique and assist !
